President, Medical Director
I'm a veterinarian (VMD), certified veterinary acupuncturist (CVA), and certified veterinary journalist (CVJ).
I have been practicing as a veterinarian since 1999 when I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.
In addition to Western (conventional) veterinary practice, I offer acupuncture and traditional Chinese veterinary medicine and have been doing so since 2006 upon completing my training with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society(IVAS).
In order to serve the needs of my clients and patients on a personal basis I founded California Pet Acupuncture and Wellness (CPAW), Inc., in 2008, which has evolved into Los Angeles' premier concierge, house-call veterinary practice.
In 2019, I had the good fortune of being named as Best Veterinarian by Modern Luxury Angeleno Magazine Luxe List.
As a doctor and healthy lifestyle advocate for my patients (and myself), I'm a firm believer in the power of whole-food nutrition. This passion has led me to become Chief Veterinary Office of PURE in 2020 so I can spread word of the importance of human-grade, whole-food feeding for pets to my clients and to my world-wide audience.
When I'm not seeing canine and feline patients, as a certified veterinary journalist I contribute to a variety of media outlets including Animal Wellness , Catster , PetMD's The Daily Vet , Dogster , Hamptons Pet , Tracie Hotchner's Holistic Vets , The Hollywood Reporter , Hallmark Channel's Home & Family , The Honest Kitchen, KTLA , Animal Planet's My Cat From Hell , MSNBC , Veria Network's Natural Companions , Patrick's Blog , PetSafe , Pet World Insider, Victoria Stilwell's Positively.com , Prevention Magazine , Perez Hilton's Teddy Hilton , Reader's Digest , Rover.com , Spectrum News 1 SoCal , Veterinary Practice News , Vice , and others.
As I'm compelled to practice what I preach, in my personal life I'm a healthy lifestyle advocate with focus on weight management, whole food diets, nutraceuticals, yoga, running, weight lifting, hiking, cycling, and more.
I'm also an avid plant rescuer and propagator at my home in West Hollywood, CA and an enthusiast of various music genres, art, and travel (when time and patient care permits).
You can read about Cardiff in my blog as I report on my treatment of his life threatening health condition, Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA)
And, yes, I use acupuncture on my own pet. I completed the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) basic course (2006) and am now a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA).
I earned this certification after I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (1999) and completed an internship at Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington, D.C (2000).
I make house calls with the emphasis on pain management through acupuncture and musculoskeletal therapy. I also advise on pet-safe environmental changes, recommend dietary modifications, prescribe medications, dispense nutraceuticals (supplements) and Chinese herbs, communicate with your regular veterinarian or specialist, and provide end of life care and euthanasia. Learn more about my practice or arrange for a consultation for your cat or dog via my Veterinary Services webpage.
