My RBCs Are Regenerating Yet My Lethargy Persists

I had such a great time during the overnight visit of my girlfriend, Lucia, but I am still not quite my normal energetic self. Lucia certainly brightened my spirits and I am so grateful for her visit. The most recent blood tests indicate a healthy increase in my reticulocyte count. This is great news, as it means that my body is producing new red blood cells (RBCs) to make up for those destroyed by my excessively exuberant immune system. Unfortunately, my overall RBC numbers are continuing to drop. This decline is expected as it is challenging for my bone marrow to churn out new cells in numbers adequate to replace those lost to my IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia). Fewer RBCs do not permit my body to to transport oxygen very efficiently, therefore I am feeling more lethargic as the numbers drop. I am getting close to the low threshold where I should have a blood transfusion. My dad will make this decision pending my next blood tests and overall appearance over the 24 hrs (or so). On a lighter note, we are so lucky to have a clean, quiet park right up the street form us. My dad likes to take me to this particular park, as it lacks the chaos of other canine friendly West Hollywood parks. In my weakened state, my interactions with other dogs should be kept at a minimum. Not only can I readily overextend myself from an energetic standpoint, but I could be exposed to organisms that may opportunistically infect my compromised immune system. Fortunately, it was quiet at the park today, so I got to enjoy the sun and fresh air in peace. One of my dad’s clients gave him this really nice ornament as a holiday gift for taking care of her two cats, Lulu and Pearla. I wish that I got the gift of two cats for me to sniff, lick, and chase, but this ornament will suffice. Even though the ornament reflects the likeness of a Scottish Terrier, it kind of looks like me (I'm a Welsh Terrier). As we are all part of the terrier family, I look forward to having such a familiar effigy as part of our home’s holiday decorations. Stay tuned for the results of my next blood tests. Wish me happy RBC regeneration(again).
