Malibu Beach Outing Leads To My Upset Stomach

I recently had such a fun afternoon with my friend Puma. Puma as a Viszla who is about the same age as me as one of my BFFs. We have been pals for many years and have partaken in many great adventures together (see Hiking Runyon Canyon With My Canine Companions). The latest road trip was a doggie and daddy day on the beach in Malibu, CA. I love going there, as I run free, bark at the waves, and chase the tennis ball to my heart’s content. All I have to do is keep up my dad and not stop to pee on anyone who may be sitting on the beach. One time I got in trouble one time for tinkling on some fancy lady’s purportedly expensive purse. On this outing, Puma and I found a really cool new toy that provided us much amusement. It make a fun squeaky noise and was covered with yellow felt. We both wanted to play with it, so we had many tug of war battles. Of course, being a spirited terrier, I won most of the time. I don’t really like to drink on my own, so my dad has to pour water in my mouth. He says that making me drink water frequently helps to avoid “beach diarrhea” (see Pet Care 101- Can You Avoid Your Dog’s Beach Diarrhea). I believe him, as I rarely have diarrhea anymore after a day at the beach. The tide was high, so we were forced to seek refuge between two fabulous, oceanfront houses. During our respite, I took to chewing on one end of the new toy as it was flavored with salt and other unknown tasty substances. Puma was snacking on some driftwood, so I proceeded to do the same. I am not typically prone to the inappropriate consumption of wood, but Puma was doing it so I figured I would follow suit. As a result of ingesting some of the felt, wood, and sand, I developed some gastrointestinal upset later in the evening. I still ate my dinner with a great appetite, but I had discomfort in my belly that made me exhibit unusual behavior. When we went for our evening walk, I twice wanted to lay down in the yucky grass in between the street and sidewalk. Later that night, I pooped out a bunch of sand and had multiple episodes where I was retching to vomit. This all of course had to happen near midnight as my dad was getting ready to get some sleep before his acupuncture event at Evolve Wellness (see Please Join Me At Evolve Wellness Sunday 5/23 For A Pet And People Acupuncture Event). I finally vomited up a small amount of white, foamy material, but no pieces of felt nor other environmental objects. After vomiting, I was finally able to get comfortable and rested well for the rest of the night. By the morning, I was feeling better and ate with a normal appetite. I was back to my normal self, energetically and digestively, later that day. Thank you for reading my latest blog posting. Please feel free to share my story with other pet lovers.
