Do you give your pet any dietary supplements? My dog Cardiff and many of my patients take them, as some products can help to reduce the reliance on medications potentially having side effects or augment the health of the digestive tract and immune system so chemotherapy and other treatments are better tolerated.

Knowing what product to use and how much and how frequently to give supplements to achieve a therapeutic effect is something pet owners should seek the help of their veterinarian in determining. Although many supplements are generally safe, there can be side effects that can make assessing the effectiveness for your pet more challenging. Therefore, having the guidance of a veterinarian experienced in their use is key.

I had the opportunity to share my experience using supplements for my canine and feline patients on the ABC 7 WJLA program The Pet Show with Dr. Katy. See Supplements for Your Pets.
