Second Day of Immunosuppressive Therapy

I am feeling much better today, now that I have started immunosuppressive therapy. Right now, I am only being medicated with Prednisone, but I may ultimately need to receive an additional immunosuppressive drug, like Azothioprine (Imuran). These drugs prevent my immune system from destroying my red blood cells. My bone marrow is producing new red blood cells to make up for the loss. The Prednisone is currently my miracle drug, as I was so lethargic and sore for the past week. The lameness in my left front limb at my “wrist” (carpus) has greatly improved, but I still have an occasional limp. I am now able to fully open my jaw and chew. Even better, I have much better energy and love to play with my squeaky “Mr. Martian” toy. I am still taking Doxycycline in case I have contracted a bacterial agent that could be making my immune system go crazy. I also take a Chinese herb (Wei Qi booster) and a dietary supplement (Standard Process Canine Immune Support) to support my immune system. My appetite is much improved. My dad just cooked up a batch of healthy, fresh food, which I love. The pureed vegetables are so green and delicious. The basmati rice is moist and easily digestible. My Nature’s Variety beef medallions are cooked so they are aromatic and flavorful. The cooked medallions are safer for my digestive tract than feeding raw meat. The cooking process kills any bacteria that could be harmful to my compromised immune system. I had a very comfortable bed to sleep in at the Beverly Hilton, but I look forward to getting back home this morning. I miss my kitty blanket and toys.
