I’m veterinarian Patrick Mahaney, and I became interested in the integrative approach to medicine after suffering a series of back injuries. This led to an MRI diagnosis of inter-vertebral disc disease (IVDD).

My chronic discomfort is now under control through a multimodal approach to pain management, including dietary modification and supplements, acupuncture, chiropractic, and (as needed) Western medication.

Since IVDD is a condition commonly seen in both dogs and cats, I feel a true connection to many of my patients’ problems. This is why I offer the same level of care to your pets that I pursue for myself.

Through California Pet Acupuncture & Wellness (CPAW), Inc., I provide a combination of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and Western veterinary services to improve my patients’ health.

TCVM (Eastern) evaluates a patient’s physical manifestation of energetic movement along pathways (meridians) to direct treatment, such as acupuncture, musculoskeletal therapy, dietary modification, and Chinese herbs.

The Western approach utilizes physical exam and diagnostics to achieve a therapeutic plan, such as the administration of medications or supplements, or performing surgery.

Using both Eastern and Western perspectives, I take a holistic approach to my patients’ health. This holistic approach strives to achieve a high quality of life for my patients from the sum of healthy individual organ systems.
